Data released by the Justice Ministry has revealed a drop in the case backlog of the Maltese courts.

Clearance rates for the case backlog improved in the courts of civil appeal, both inferior and superior, thanks to an increased number of magistrates.

The civil case backlog decreased from 11,533 in 2012 down to 11,240 in 2014, and from 15,117 criminal cases in 2012 to 14,652 in 2014.
