Sea transport between Malta and Gozo up by 20% in the first quarter of 2016, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2015

NSO figures show that a total of 1,010,213 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo in the first quarter of 2016, which marks a 20 per cent increase compared to the corresponding quarter in 2015.

According to statistics, the highest number of passengers was recorded in March - 392,582 or 38.9 per cent of the total for the quarter, while the number of vehicles increased by 18.1 per cent, totaling 305,409.

The Data shows that the number of trips during the period, amounted to 5,164, an increase of 12.5 per cent over the same period in 2015, with the majority of trips taking place in March  with 1,788 or 34.6 per cent of total trips for the quarter.

The data also shows that passenger traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Friday and Saturday, whereas highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday,
