Schulz and European Parliament party leaders to visit Malta on 8 December

The president of the European Parliament will visit Malta to meet parliament and political party leaders

The Conference of the Presidency of the European Parliament will be visiting Malta on 8 December to visit parliament and meet the leaders of the political parties, according to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anglu Farrugia.

Farrugia told parliament’s House Business Committee on Monday that Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament will be accompanied on the visit by leaders of all the parliamentary groups represented in the European Parliament.

The committee agreed that parliament hold a one-hour sitting to welcome Schulz and the other representatives. Prime minister Joseph Muscat and opposition leader Simon Busuttil will address the extraordinary sitting.

Other speakers will include the chairpersons and one other member from each of the three parliamentary committees that participate in the inter-paliamentary conference.

Farrugia said that the European Parliament president and party representatives always visited the country that was scheduled to take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union, as Malta will do from January 2017.
