EU leaders in Malta for inauguration marking Maltese EU presidency

Donald Tusk and Jean Claude Juncker in Malta for inaugural speeches marking the beginning of the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union

European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker visits Malta today on the opening of Malta’s presidency of the EU for the next six months.

At 9:30am, he pays a courtesy call on President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

At 10:40am, the Maltese cabinet of Ministers convenes at the Palace in Valletta to meet the European Commissioners, who are also in Malta.

Juncker visits St. John’s Co-Cathedral before being received by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the Auberge de Castille at 11:30, for a bilateral meeting.

The two leaders will address a press conference at 2:15pm.

At 3pm, Jean-Claude Juncker pays a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia, followed by the College of Commissioners who will also meet the Chairpersons of the Maltese Parliamentary Committees.

At 5:30pm, Muscat receives the President of the European Council Donald Tusk at the Auberge de Castille, before proceeding to the Mediterranean Conference Centre for the 7pm performance and inaugural speeches marking the beginning of the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
