Vince Farrugia files police report against GWU
The GRTU director general Vince Farrugia files police report against the GWU secretary-general Tony Zarb over "hate campaign".
23 March 2012, 12:00am
"The GWU secretary-general Tony Zarb, personally and through the media he wields a direct influence on, is leading a campaign of hate and personal assassination against Vince Farrugia," the GRTU said.
The GRTU explained that the campaign has been ongoing since 2003, when Farrugia publicly declared his support for Malta's EU accession. "Now this campaign has taken the form of a continuous character assassination. Vince Farrugia has reported the case to the police because the GRTU deems these media attacks as a criminal act."
The GRTU added that the campaign intensified in January when Zarb alleged that Farrugia had referred to precarious workers as rats during an MCESD meeting. Farrugia had denied this and filed a libel suit against Zarb.
The GRTU council said it was grateful for Farrugia's work on behalf of the self-employed and businessmen and unreservedly condemned the GWU's attacks on Farrugia who "never shied away from carrying out his duties with utmost integrity."
