Unions called 35 industrial action in just over three months in the health sector, health minister Konrad Mizzi said.

Replying to a question by opposition MP Claudio Grech, Mizzi said that in 2014, the sector has been hit by 35 industrial action, up by seven from the whole of 2013, when the Malta Union of Nurses and Midwives (MUMN), the General Workers Union (GWU) and Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) called 29 actions.

MUMN was by far the busiest union, calling 32 actions this year and 25 in 2013.

The figures for 2013-14 dwarf the industrial actions called in previous years when four actions were called in 2012 and a further six before 2012.
