Maltese men have clinched the title for the fattest in Europe and take fourth place in global rankings. With an average BMI of 74 for men above the age of 25, Maltese men are heavier than men in the US. Maltese women fared slightly better, placing fourth amongst European countries.

Parliamentary sessions are due to be held in the new parliament building after the summer recess. The migration will begin as soon as the holidays begin, to be completed by September or October. The possibility of livestreaming plenary sessions is also being considered.

A kitchen fire at the Fortina Hotel triggered an evacuation of guests as smoke billowed through the upper floors. No one was injured in the incident but two guests required medical attention for smoke inhalation.

A man will remain in custody after his daughter claimed he abused her, a story her mother made up. The man's request for immediate release was denied and he will remain in prison until his estranged wife's perjury was proven.

Parliamentary secretary for health Chris Fearne came under fire yesterday after two cases of abuse at Mt Carmel hospital were treated differently. One nurse, accused of beating a patient after they requested to change the television channel, was transferred to another ward while another nurse was suspended over indecent behaviour towards a minor.
