A three-month old infant who suffered seizures and was subsequently taken to hospital by her father had been shaken violently, court doctors concluded. The child had a fractured skull and the resulting haemhorrage caused a fit. The child's father, a 26-year old soldier, is being charged with seriously injuring his daughter.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil challenged the government to published the draft of a law that would see local council elections postponed by five years. Speaking during an interview yesterday, Busuttil said the government should publish the document so that the government's intentions could be made clear. The PN, he said, was against the move and in favour of democracy.

President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca yesterday launched the National Forum for Trade Unions, calling it a historic move that would promote unity between citizens. Coleiro Preca described trade unions as catalysts of change and an important influence, given that so many workers are members of such unions.

Maltese workers in Libya are facing supply shortages, according to relatives in Malta who say that the situation is worse than is being portrayed. A number of Medavia ambulance flights have arrived in Malta over the past days through private charter. Sources tell this newspaper that another government-chartered flight was planned for the coming days.
