Tourism minister confident ITS new board's ability to reform academy

Institute of Tourism Studies' new board more than capable carrying out the necessary reforms, tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis says

Tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis today said the new ITS board has the neccessery competences to face the challenges ahead of the educationalk institute.

During a visit at the institute of tourism studies in St Julian’s, the minister met the new board members and expressed his confidence in their ability to carry out the necessary reforms.

Highlighting the need for greater “synergy and direction,” Zammit Lewis said new board member Matthew Pace, who is also the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association chairman, will play a vital role in “bridging the gap between the academy and the tourism sector.”

Underlining the importance of greater cooperation between the industry and the institute, Zammit Lewis noted that other board members came from the private sector. 

He also pointed out that 10% of ITS students are foreign and said that the institute must look at attracting more students from abroad.

The minister also reiterated government’s commitment t increase investment and expend the institute’s operations beyond the country’s shoes and establish the school as one of the best in the region.
