At a recent presbyterial council, priests voiced their concern over the Church’s lack of direction under Archbishop Paul Cremona’s stewardship. The newspaper reports that the issue made it to the agenda amid priests’ growing concerns that direction from the Church’s leaders was not forthcoming. Priests believe that “a leadership vacuum” has developed.

After government’s proposal to ‘compensate’ households for last week’s nationwide blackout, NGOs like the GRTU, MEA and the Chamber of Commerce are now calling on the government to compensate businesses for losses incurred during the blackout. At least four localities spent more than 12 hours without electricity.

The reform of the local enforcement system is causing unrest among the local wardens. According to GWU section secretary Charles Galea, there currently is no uniformity in enforcement and most of the enforcement being carried out depends on the individuals and their own initiative.

A “large building block” purported to be a villa was illegally developed in Mgarr ix-Xini, near the Brangelina film set. The villa is not immediately visible to the naked eye and is masked by high hill round the back. The property is faced with an enforcement notice.
