Nationalist Party rearing for editorial revamp

Where’s Everybody? reporter Fabian Demicoli set to join media.link newsroom • Head of News Nathanial Attard to replace Alex Attard as editor of In-Nazzjon who in turn will start focusing on court reporting

The Nationalist Party is gearing up for an overhaul of its media.link newsroom with new faces joining the newsroom and others given new roles.

Informed sources told MaltaToday that In-Nazzjon editor Alex Attard could be assigned court reporting or appointed editor of parliamentary reporting while head of news Nathanial Attard will be the new editor of the PN daily.

Where’s Everybody? reporter Fabian Demicoli, who started his journalistic career with media.link, will be returning to NET TV as head of news.

Roderick Agius was confirmed as editor of Il-Mument, the PN’s Sunday newspaper.

Writing in Sunday newspaper Illum, PN secretary general Chris Said confirmed that significant changes to the media operations of the party would be carried out in the coming days.

“We are carrying out significant changes to our media, bringing in a mix of fresh ideas and experience in the running of NET TV and the newspapers,” he said.

Said added that the PN’s media branch was no longer making losses and ambitious goals set a year and a half ago had been met.

Crass mismanagement and a lack of forward planning had left the PN and its commercial companies in very serious financial difficulties, rumoured to run into €8 million, at least. The massive debt accumulated by the party and commercial entities had been piling up over the past 10 years.

Although it is not known what sort of payment programme the party sorted out with ARMS Ltd - the Automated Revenue Management Service – the PN had water and electricity bills running up to €1.9 million.

The PN is also set to appoint a CEO to handle its commercial business while its media will be re-launched under a new brand.

The PN has also embarked on a reach-out campaign urging volunteers from all walks of life to help rebuild the party.

“This can only be done through a team effort.  By volunteering you will be directly participating in the party’s renewal.  So get involved today, make great friends along the way, and experience the excitement of being on the frontline,” an email by Vnet, the PN’s volunteer network, reads.
