Persecuted minorities in war-torn countries remembered in prayer vigil

Archbishop Paul Cremona leads prayer vigil in Mellieha for persecuted minorities

A prayer vigil for persecuted minorities in war-torn countries led by Archbishop Paul Cremona was held in Mellieha.

Journalists were also invited to the vigil in remembrance of US journalist James Foley, beheaded by ISIS militants.

During the prayer vigil, Cremona called for peace around the world and praying for persecuted Christians who were being brutally murdered.

He said that the root cause of violence was the lack of tolerance, the hunger for powers, envy and the hatred that forces people to see each other as enemies.

“These sentiments could be even in one of us and could cause violence among us. This violence could escalate and the only difference is that we do not have weapons readily available. It is important that seek tolerance, understand, love and generosity which push us to seek the common good,” the Archbishop said.

Cremona said there was no comparison to the suffering Christians were undergoing in Libya, African countries, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Ukraine.
