The National Commission for Further and Higher Education presented a draft policy this morning to the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development which proposes that vocational subjects are given more importance in secondary and post-secondary education.

The policy, which covers the period 2014 to 2020, also promotes combined research between the University of Malta and the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).

Social Dialogue Minister, Helena Dalli, was present for the meeting and praised the policy. Malta was in need of skilled workers and the introduction of more vocational subjects could help in that regard, she said.

Amongst other proposals, financial support for businesses within the vocational field and a trust fund for the private sector are outlined.
