In a frank interview with Sunday newspaper Illum, the outspoken Fr Colin Apap said that if the people were happy with the state of the Church in Malta, “the people must be living on the moon.”

He said the recent criticism and “rage” at the Church showed that the country was maturing, adding that “anger is a characteristic of a mature person, a mature people, normal priests.”

Apap said “The status quo means ‘the mess we are in.’ How can you be contented? I hope I’m not, but in serenity.”

Moreover, Apapa said the Maltese Episcopal Conference should no longer be divided in two dioceses, one in Malta and one in Gozo, however there should be one diocese, one seminary and one structure.
