Karmenu Vella can expect a tough grilling at the hands of MEPs as he will have to prove himself suitable to take on the European Commission's environment, maritime affairs and fisheries portfolio. A number of nominations be EC President Jean-Claude Junker have raised eyebrows, including Vella's, given Malta's poor track record on hunting.

The director of defunct travel agency Fantasy Tours, Karl Azzopardi, will face charges of fraud, misappropriation and of deceiving clients, a year after holidays booked with the agency never took place and were never refunded.

Speaking at a seminar on global citizenship in New York, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that Malta wanted international talent and network, not money. Muscat said this showed Malta's interest in long-term economic relationships.

Individuals suspected of burglaries in the Sliema area cannot be charged as there was not enough evidence. An increased police presence in the area seems to have had a positive impact, with the last burglary having been reported on 8 August.
