Caritas pioneer Mgr Victor Grech calls it a day as director

Monsignor Victor Grech, a pioneering figure in Caritas Malta, retires from his post as Caritas director and delegate of the social and charity secretariat

Monsignor Victor Grech has retired as the Director of Caritas Malta and as a delegate of the Social and Charity Secretariat.

In a statement, the Maltese Archdiocese said Mgr Grech, a pioneering figure in Caritas Malta, asked the permission of Archbishop Paul Cremona to retire from the two posts.

The Archbishop thanked Mgr Grech for the significant work carried out over the past 37 years. Mgr Grech also founded the Rehabilitation Foundation for persons with drug problems and victims of usury.

Archbishop Cremona has nominated Mgr Charles Cordina as his delegate to the social and charity secretariat. Leonid McKay has been appointed as Executive Director of Caritas Malta.

Among other works, McKay is one of the authors of a Caritas study ‘A Minimum Budget for a Decent Living’.

Mgr Cordina is the Curia’s pastoral secretary, a post he will retain.
