€5 million in EU funds to be invested in Gozo hospital

€5 million in EU funds will be used to buy new apparatus for the Gozo General Hospital.

€5 million in EU funds will be used to buy new apparatus for the Gozo General Hospital, Health Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne announced.

“The Gozo General Hospital is being transformed from a state of abandonment into one of dignity,” Fearne said. “With these new services, Gozitan patients will be given the treatment they deserve without having to travel to Malta.”

He added that around 400 patients have made use of the Day Care Unit since it opened in July 2014 and that no one is on the waiting list of the new bone treatment service.

“Around 50 Gozitan nurses who used to work in Maltese hospitals are now working in Gozo,” Fearne said. “We have managed to strengthen many hospital departments, including the womens’ areas and the operation theaters.”

Fearne was speaking at the Gozo Hospital Worker of the Year award ceremony. The hyper-barbaric unit was announced as the team of the year while nurse Bernardette Piscopo was announced as the worker of the year.
