President meets Maltese cancer patients in the UK

Plans to increase collaboration in reasearch and assistance to Maltese patients and their families

President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca continued her official visit to the United Kingdom today, visiting several Maltese patients at the Great Ormond Street hospital and the National Neurological Hospital in London.

The President also presented the two hospitals with donations, as tokens of gratitude for their work.

The President thanked Great Ormond Street’s Chief Nurse Lisa Morgan for the care the hospital provides to its young Maltese patients and invited further collaboration with the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Meeting with the Maltese neurosurgeon Ludwig Zrinzo, who has spent the past 14 years working in the UK in this highly specialised field, the two discussed the possibility of increased collaboration in both research as well as psycho-social assistance for Maltese patients and their families.

The President also met with Children With Cancer UK Chief Executive, Mary Foulkes and discussed the possibility of collaborating on initiatives to aid children suffering from cancer. The organisation Children With Cancer UK was set up 26 years ago and aside from research on the disease, also offers practical assistance to child cancer sufferers and their families.
