Gozo Channel cuts losses by €671,422 in the first 6 months of 2014

Record-breaking year in passenger numbers

Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo visited the Gozo Channel offices today, meeting Gozo Channel Chairman Joe Cordina, as well as employees and passengers.

Expressing his appreciation for the work the company is doing, Refalo listed the measures taken to improve the service since the operation was passed on to his ministry, amongst them reducing the company’s debt, addressing the “large scale, organised” theft from its ships’ cafeterias and the setting up of an audit board to minimize waste in the company’s operation.

“This year was a record-breaking one for Gozo Channel”, said the minister. More than half a million passengers were reported to have been transported last August and over 142,000 cars, compared to the decline in passenger numbers for 2011 and 2012.

The visit also marked the launch of the new Gozo Channel website – www.gozochannel.com
