In the Press: Malta turns away merchant ship over suspected Ebola case

Hundreds are missing after their boat sank, a result of it being damaged deliberately by the smugglers, after refusing to change from one vessel to another.

Prince William will be replacing his wife the Duchess of Cambridge on a royal visit to Malta on the occasion of the island's 50th independence anniversary. The Duchess has been advised to forgo the trip by her doctors on account of her severe morning sickness during her second pregnancy.

Maltese port authorities rejected a request for assistance from a merchant vessel suspected of carrying an Ebola patient. The L-MV Western Copenhagen left from Guinea en route to Ukraine and was carrying a Filipino passenger who developed symptoms that match those of the deadly virus. The patient is now in the care of Italian authorities.

The majority of the victims of the sinking of a migrant boat last week - known to have been caused by human traffickers - were refugees from the conflict in Israel. Around 500 migrants began the journey, about 300 of whom were Palestinian, according to survivors who spoke to authorities in Crete and Sicily.
