Assistant Commissioners total 10 with new promotion

The Maltese police force has appointed its tenth assistant police commissioner, with superintendent Sandro Zarb promoted today Tuesday.

Zarb has been given responsibility of Protective Services, a job once held by former assistant commissioner Josie Brincat.

Zarb will have under his command over 400 men and women that form the Administrative Law Enforcement (ALE), the Mounted Section, the canine unit, traffic, control room, garage, compounds, and the Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU).

Sandro Zarb spent a long time as police inspector with the Immigration Section and lately superintendent with the RIU.

The other nine Assistant Commissioners are Silvio Valletta (Crime), Norbert Ciappara (Drug Squad and Vice Squad), Antoine Casha (Economic Crime), Neville Aquilina (Region A), Martin Sammut (Region B), Carmelo Magri (Administration), Mario Spiteri (Strategy&Planning), Stephen Gatt (International Relations) and Lawrence Cutajar (Immigration).
