Joseph Farrugia 'il-Farell' is the second candidate to throw in his name to fill in the Parliamentary seat vacated by European Commissioner Karmenu Vella.

Farrugia joins Marsaxlokk mayor Edric Micallef who submitted his nomination for the casual election earlier this week.

While Micallef would be a newcomer, Farrugia is no stranger to the corridors of Parliament as he was previously elected in 1996 only to lose his seat two years later when Labour lost the snap election.

Other possible contenders for the vacant seat include another former MP and retired surgeon Anthony Zammit who lost his seat in last year’s election.
