In the wake of its successful launch of the report, “A Review of the Constitution of Malta at Fifty: Rectification or Redesign?” and in line with its objective of stimulating a wide public debate on issues of national interest, the Today Public Policy Institute, Malta’s only independent non-partisan think-tank, is holding a Conference on the Constitution, which will be open to members of the public, to discuss the key issues arising from its report.

The conference on the Constitution will be held in the Main Hall of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry on Thursday, 6th November from 4pm to 8pm.

Members of the public, institutional bodies and civil society are warmly encouraged to attend to express their views on this important subject as a precursor to the forthcoming Constitutional Convention promised by government. “The open discussion under each session constitutes the vital part of the public conference,” TPPI director-general Martin Scicluna said.

“What will be said here should make a contribution to whatever subsequent discussions come about in the forthcoming Constitutional Convention. Indeed, the whole purpose of the Conference is to act as a precursor to the Convention on the Constitution to be organised by government and to inform the way in which that very important Convention will be organised and run.”

The programme for the evening will be as follows:

1600 – 1615: Welcome and Introduction by Martin Scicluna. Introduction of Dr Michael Frendo as the Moderator of the Session Discussions.

1615 – 1720: SESSION 1: Consideration of Major Institutional Issues, including Constitutional Principles.
