Retired judge Alberto Magri to head inquiry into Wednesday’s shooting incident

Board of inquiry to be made up of retired judges Alberto Magri, JD Camilleri and Philip Sciberras

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has appointed an independent board of inquiry to investigate Wednesday’s shooting incident and allegations leveled by the Opposition of an attempted cover-up.

The inquiry will be led by judge emeritus Alberto Magri, assisted by judges emeriti JD Camilleri and Philip Sciberras.

Muscat’s inquiry board will be tasked to explore the allegation of the cover-up and whether Manuel Mallia or other officials were “illicitly” involved in any way. The inquiry should also determine weather Mallia intervened to cover up Sheehan’s actions or any other issue concerning the behavior of the minister or other official during the incident.

The inquiry reports must be completed within 15 days.
