In the Press: Muscat draws budget back into limelight, skirts political issues

The Prime Minister used his speech in parliament yesterday to draw attention to this year's budget, which was overshadowed by the shooting incident last week. He only briefly made reference to the political issues that are currently the centre of attention for the electorate.

In reference to last week's shooting incident involving minister Manuel Mallia's driver, PM Joseph Muscat yesterday said that he would not protect anyone. He was giving a two-hour speech in reaction to the Budget in parliament yesterday evening.

The Opposition will file a no-confidence motion in minister Manuel Mallia in the wake of the shooting incident that saw his driver fire shots at a civilian's car.

In his speech in parliament yesterday PM Joseph Muscat said that the Opposition's assertion that public sector jobs had increased did not take into consideration the increase in retirement age, namely from age 61 to 62. 

The Malta Independent

The final submissions were made in a constitutional case filed by Emanuel Camilleri, a man who was wrongly imprisoned for the now disproven allegations of sexual abuse against his daughter. Camilleri's lawyer pointed out that the inspector who prosecuted the man could not have been unaware of evidence casting doubts on his daughter's claims.
