A document proposing a national parking policy is to be presented to cabinet soon, announced Transport Minister Joe Mizzi this morning.

The minister said that the new policy is intended to address the issue of “massive indiscipline when it comes to parking” in Malta. He explained that talks are currently underway with Transport Malta to educate the public with regards to their responsibilities when parking, but warned that “those who don’t want to educate themselves will face disciplinary action”.

The announcement was made at a press conference launching a free park and ride shuttle service from Saqqajja hill directly to seven Rabat restaurants.

Thanking the restauranteurs who pioneered this initiative, the minister said that this shows that the Park and Ride concept is being increasingly accepted by the Maltese people and committed government to carry on operating the existing current Park and Ride services with no change in price.

Restaurant owner Keith Psaila, on behalf of the group, expressed welcomed the fact that Rabat restaurant owners cooperated to fight for a common cause and hoped this intiative would also strengthen the Rabat commercial community.

The service, which is open to clients dining at Cosmana Navarra, Bottegin Palazzo Xara, Palazzo Castelletti,
Da Luigi, Toffee & Co, Peristyle and Grotto Tavern, is currently already operating on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 pm till midnight.
