19 local councils are making use of €6 million in EU funds on infrastructure-related projects, EU funds parliamentary secretary Ian Borg said.

“Most of the projects are aimed at improving the touristic product of cities and villages, as well as the quality of life of residents,” Borg said, during the official opening of the ‘Leisure Park’ in Marsaskala, a project worth €249,247 tht was financed under the EU’s LEADER programme for the development of the rural economy.

“This project’s final goal was to transform St Thomas’ Garden into a Leisure Park that includes sport facilities such as an outdoor gym, recreation zones for families, and playing zones for children,” Borg said. “A number of information leaflets will soon be published, so as to continue educating and promoting rural walks by St Thomas’ Bay that conclude at the Xrobb l-Ghagin Nature Park.

“This will make it easier for visitors to understand the importance of conserving our natural rural heritage.”
