PN leader visits Maltco Lotteries offices

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil urges government to continue defending Malta's gaming sector

During a visit at the Maltco Lotteries offices in Iklin, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil urged the government to continue defending Malta's gaming sector as a number of EU member states push for stricter regulations.

Accompanied by the PN spokeswoman for gaming Kristy Debono, Busuttil said the sector was a highly-regulated and sensitive sector.

"Although betting has negative connotations, regulations and a legalised framework have brought the sector onboard as a mainstream activity," Busuttil said.

He said that the social impact of betting could be controlled by those who played in a safe and regulated environment and pointed out the positive impact gaming had on the domestic economy.

"The gaming sector has opened new economic grounds in Malta," Busuttil said.

Maltco Lotteries CEO Ioannis Katakis said Maltco was considered among one of the leading betting standards in the world.
