UHM halts transfers at Enemalta

UHM holds urgent meeting with Enemalta management following that transfers of a number workers ‘against the collective agreement’

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin held an urgent meeting with the management of Enemalta following the transfers given to a number of workers without “consultation and against the collective agreement”.

According to the union, the management wanted the workers to be transferred by Monday 2 February, something which the UHM will not accept. It insisted that the workers should be allowed the necessary time to consider how this transfer would affect them.

“The UHM was clear in that it will order directives to its workers not to accept the transfer if they are not given enough time to evaluate the request. The management finally agreed to put on hold the transfers until the workers discuss their working conditions,” the UHM said.

The union also objected to “deceitful wording” used by the Enemalta management in the transfer letter in which it informed the workers that “their request to be seconded had been upheld”. According to the UHM, the workers never requested a transfer.

“We will continue taking all the necessary measures to safeguard our workers’ interests. Above all, it was the Prime Minister who pledged that their ‘working conditions will not be played around with.”
