A report by the Auditor General, published yesterday in the House of Representatives, paints a damning picture of the government's haste to buy back the lease on the Cafe Premier property. The National Audit Office found a lack of documentation, a failure of the negotiating team to involve the Government Property Department and no documentation sustaining claims that the overlying National Archives building was at risk.

The Ombudsman has filed application against the home affairs minister and his permanent secretary, claiming that his office is being hindered from investigating complaints made by members of the armed forces on matters of pension rights, salaries and promotions.

By unanimous vote, the MEPA board yesterday turned down an application to sanction illegal works being carried out on a farmhouse property owned by minister Helena Dalli.

A Eurobarometer survey revealed that 90% of the Maltese population is currently satisfied with their quality of life and 40% feel their life will improve within the next year. 73% feel their economic situation is favourable.
