In the Press: 'No' vote holds single-point lead in the south

The anti-spring hunting lobby is leading by a wide margin in localities in the north of the island and by a single point in the south. The 'yes' campaign meanwhile enjoys more support in central Malta and Gozo, according to MaltaToday's latest survey.

Mario Camilleri, co-owner of Cities Entertainment, has spoken out about the Cafe Premier scandal, maintaining that he never donated to the Labour party and he and his business partner had attempted to find a buyer for the property's 50-year lease after they fell out.

A comment made by justice and culture minister Owen Bonnici yesterday revealed that the Cabinet was not aware of PM Joseph Muscat's meeting with Cities Entertainment prior to the 2013 general election. Bonnici also said that while the AG's report sheds light on some parts of the deal that could have been handled better, he was confident that the government had made the right decision.

Eight members of the Naxxar Peace Band Club committee were acquitted of illegally storing explosive material on the premises. The court concluded that the men were unaware of the storage of these materials and were charged only because they were members of the committee.

The Malta Independent

The International Monetary Fund expressed concerns at the high number of non-performing loans (i.e. loans are in or close to default), accounting to 9.5% of the total loans in the second quarter of 2014.
