The government will help Maltese businesses based in Libya to set up in other African countries, Economy Minister Chris Cardona said.

“As a government, we are obliged to assist in any manner we can to ensure the continuation of these businesses and to safeguard the jobs of their employees,” Cardona told the North African Business Council, a newly-formed committee within the Malta Chamber of Commerce.

He also told the council that the government would assist any North African and Middle-Eastern businesses that want to invest in Malta.

Malta’s relations with North Africa and the Middle East are excellent and long-standing,” Cardona said. “North African and Middle-Eastern companies wishing to explore Malta’s business potential can rest assured that the Maltese Government and its national development agency, Malta Enterprise, will support and facilitate their efforts.”

He added that Malta is constantly on the look-out for strategic partners “who would benefit from Malta’s business-friendly legislative regime and its skilled workforce to strengthen their regional and global presence”.
