European Council President Donald Tusk will be in Malta tomorrow for official talks with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

Tusk and Muscat are expected to discuss efforts to stabilize the region, the crisis in Libya and its regional and international dimension, and the prevention and fight against illegal migration flows and terrorist threats.

Muscat has insisted that an organised intervention led by the United Nations would be the only solution to control the worrying situation in Libya. Libya is currently caught up in a conflict among rival factions with the Tobruk and Tripoli governments each having its own governments, armed forces and separate parliaments. The country has also become home to factions who have pledges allegiance to the Islamic State.

However, UN envoy Bernardino de Leon has said that peace talks between Libya’s rival political factions and the formation of a national unity government is very difficult amid ongoing clashes in Libya.
