Over 36,000 voting documents have yet to be collected, amounting to some 11% of those entitled to vote in the upcoming referendum on spring hunting. The referendum, which coincides with local council elections in some localities, is nine days away.

The Medical Association of Malta has expressed its reservations about the government's plan to privatise the health sector, saying that private entities are more interested in the bottom line and that the proposal is not in line with the national health policy submitted to the EU.

Activists expressed disappointment yesterday when during a historic vote on the gender identity bill, only nine Opposition MPs were present in parliament. Opposition leader Simon Busuttil was absent.

A historic gender identity bill was approved by parliament yesterday in a landmark move that makes it easier for trans, genderqueer and intersex individuals to be recognized officially as the gender they identify with. Transgender individuals will no longer have to undergo reassignment surgery and an option has also been made available to the parents of intersex babies that allows them to delay the entry of a gender marker on official documents.
