Culture minister Owen Bonnici launched a fund aimed at supporting the internationalization of Malta’s cultural and creative sectors.

The Cultural Export Fund, with a €200,000 budget allocation, would go towards pilot projects linked to cultural export. ZfinMalta, a dance troupe, have embarked on the first stop of their international tour, traveling to Palestine to perform.

“We believe that there is a need of an internationalization strategy in the cultural and creative sectors. And the aim behind all this is to mainly provide an incentive so that artists can have access to international markets,” Bonnici said.

“This allows the arts to become more professional and sustainable in the long-term. This works in more than one way – not only do local artists get to showcase their work abroad, increasing their opportunities - but artists abroad can also become aware of what is going in the Maltese artistic and cultural scene.”

The fund, he said, will also strengthen interministerial collaboration to assist projects that will boost Malta’s international presence.
