The Malta International Fireworks Festival, organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority, was an outright success with thousands of people turning out to watch the spectacular pyro-musical competition in the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk and the equally impressive National fireworks competition in Valletta’s Grand Harbour, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) said in a statement.  

The closing show was held on Saturday 2nd May in the tourist hub of Bugibba while the evening in Marsaxlokk, on Saturday 25th April, featured the International Pyro-musical competition and the National Fireworks competition was held in Valletta on Thursday 30th April, with both competitions being won by Lourdes Fireworks Factory of Qrendi.

MTA chairman Gavin Gulia presented the winners with special trophies in the presence of MTA CEO Paul Bugeja.

“A.P.E di Parente Romualdo of Italy claimed the second prize In the International Pyro-musical competition, followed by St Mary Fireworks Factory of Ghaxaq in third place,” the statement explains adding that the 15 ta’ Awissu Fireworks Factory of Mosta had claimed the second prize In the National fireworks competition, followed by St Mary Fireworks Factory of Mgarr in third place.

The Malta International Fireworks Festival is just one of several events that the MTA organises throughout the year and other major events include the Isle of MTV Malta.
