Almost half of Valletta’s population over 50 years old

48% of Valletta’s 5,748 residents are over 50 years old, data tabled in Parliament by Finance Minister Edward Scicluna revealed.  

He was responding to a parliamentary question by shadow economy minister Claudio Grech on the demographics of Malta’s First District.

48% of Hamrun’s 9,043 residents and 48% of Marsa’s 4,788 residents are also over 50 years old. The percentage is higher in Floriana (52%), a town renowned for its ageing population, and significantly lower in Santa Venera (38%).
