In the Press: Malta doesn’t make the cut to the Eurovision Final

Newspapers today are dominated by the news that Malta was not one of the songs voted into the Eurovision Song Contest Final to be held tomorrow. Reviews for her performance state that the song didn’t make it through despite her strong performance.
Times of Malta
The Corintthia Hotels Group has announced plans to construct the first six-star hotel on the island. The hotel will physically replace the Corinthia San Gorg, Corinthia Marina and Radisson Blu resorts, and it will create some 600 new jobs. Chairman of International Hotel Investments Alfred Pisani said that the project was a €400 million investment. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat welcomed the project and said that it would be one of the biggest forays into tourism our country has ever seen.

Shadow environement minister Marthese Portelli and spokesperson for the environment Ryan Callus urged the Prime Minister to guarantee that he is going to keep his hands off Zonqor Point in Marsascala. The Jordanian investors helming the American University of Malta project had chosen the land expressly for the development, and the land has been earmarked by Maltese authorities despites its status as an ODZ land. PN stressed that the land is not just ODZ but it also scientifically and ecologically virgin land.

One of the accused, in the oil scandal (Ray Ferris) was released after the Magistrate believed his version of events rather than George Farrugia’s. Farrugia was given a presidential pardon under the condition that he should tell the truth. Ferris 54, from Sliema, was Liason Officer between Enemalta and the Privatisation Unit during the privatisation process of the Petroleum Division and he was being accused of accepting compensation or the promise of compensation among others.
