SOS Malta announces ‘Namaste Nepal’ part 2, at the Zion Reggae Bar in Bajja San Tumas from 16:00 onwards on Sunday 31st May

SOS Malta has announced that Sunday, 31 May will see ‘Namaste Nepal’ part 2, at the Zion Reggae Bar in Bajja San Tumas from 16:00.

“Zion teams up with SOS Malta to continue to raise funds to support the people of Nepal in this desperate time of recovery following two earthquakes that devastated the country. With live bands, a photographic Exhibiton, beach clean up, Munxar trek and many other activities for the whole family,” SOS said in a statement.

It explained that this was the second leg of the fundraising efforts,  following a successful fundraiser held on 20th  May at Bongo Nyah, Mgarr, ‘Namaste Nepal’, which brought together photographic and artistic talent to raise funds for Nepal. Five Photographers and one artist donated their works depicting different places and face of Nepal.

“A total of € 3,100 was collected from the sale of prints, auction of painting and a direct donation from the Bongo Nyah team. This substantial amount will be donated to SOS Malta’s Nepal Fund which has now reached just over € 100.000.”

SOS thanked Ivan Delia, Natasha Vella and Dragana Rankovic for the organisation and promotion of the event and Photographers Dragana Rankovic, Peter Mercieca, Rene Rossignaud, Analise Farrugia and Miguel Cachia, for the generous contribution of their work and also the management & staff at Bongo Nyah, musicians and Tumer and Luc for taking photos. The organization also thanked the sponsors ILAB, Mirachem and Delicata and to all who participated, donated and purchased the breath-taking photography.

“The SOS Malta Nepal Fund will focus on building self-sufficient communities and natural resource management solutions for long term sustenance. The funds will also go toward building open space community centers based in schools for disaster preparedness with smart structures. It will support in developing sanitation facilities and large scale rain water harvesting to meet safe drinking water needs. It will also support the building of resource storage.”

SOS Malta will be partnering with local NGO Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN), a non-governmental organization registered with the Government of Nepal. In response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake WCN launched Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund, a program that raises support for communities affected by Earthquake in April 2015. SOS Malta will work with WCN in Dhading district, in a village of 1000 people, to rebuild 170 homes of mixed ethnicities with a majority of indigenous people. The village’s one school and 100% of the homes were completely destroyed by the earthquake.

Aftershocks and tremors continue to devastate Nepal. With the monsoon season beginning, the pouring rain will make land more unstable, roads less accessible for aid to be delivered and less chance of sowing seeds for the next season. This is why our long term support is crucial for the people of Nepal.
