PN requests discussion on Zonqor project in parliamentary committee

The Nationalist party has sent a letter addressed to the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for the Environment, calling for an urgent meeting to discuss the possible project to construct the American University of Malta at Zonqor point in Marsascala.

Shadow environment minister Marthese Portelli and MP Ryan Callus are calling for a discussion of the Preliminary Site Evaluation Report issued in November 2014, which outlined the area outside development zones, as the site for construction.

On his part, the parliamentary secretary for planning said that the government had no problem in publishing the preliminary report for the siting of the American University. “There will be no problem to discuss this report inside the committee when the time comes, even though this is not the environment committee’s remit. Government’s wish is to have a wider discussion than the one in committee,” Michael Falzon said.
