Total arrivals in March increase by 3.4%

NSO shows total arrivals and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during March, advanced by 3.4% and 0.2% respectively when compared to the corresponding month in 2014

According to the NSO, in March, total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments numbered 111,679, while total nights spent amounted to 570,844.

Figures show that collective accommodation categories registered decreases in total nights spent, except for 4-star hotels and the ‘other’ category. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 288,124 nights, or 50.5 per cent of the total.

Statistics show that the average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 5.1 nights in March 2015 from 5.3 nights in the same month of 2014. The net use of bed-places stood at 52.5%, up by 2.0 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month last year.

The NSO report said that on a national level, there were 146 active collective accommodation establishments during March, with a net capacity of 16,224 bedrooms and 35,546 bed-places.

Total arrivals and nights spent during the first quarter this year rose (January- March) by 4.5% and 4.8% over the corresponding period last year, reaching 273,965 and 1.4 million respectively. Nights spent by non-residents advanced by 4.4% and resident nights advanced by 9.2%. The occupancy rate was estimated at 46.8% , 3.8 percentage points more than last year
