In the Press: Evidence of failed repair works at Mater Dei

Investigations on the Mater Dei Hospital by engineering firm Arup have revealed that repair works had been carried out to stop corrosion of the steel reinforcement inside the columns by water that was absorbed through the concrete. The water absorption rate was also found to be double what was expected of high quality concrete in place for 20 years.

University lecturers told Opposition leader Simon Busuttil that they are concerned about a legal notice that has lowered the standards required by educational institutions to get recognized as universities.

Former PN minister Ninu Zammit had planned to build a reverse osmosis plant at Zonqor Point. The project only fell through after it was discovered that the plant would have had to make use of polluted water.

Busuttil invited outspoken Labour MP Marlene Farrugia to the PN’s activity at Zonqor Point on Sunday. Farrugia said that she will address the activity so long as Busuttil guarantees that future governments will not build such projects on ODZ land.
