Ministers’ declarations: Refalo has €781,000 in loans, €13,000 rental income

Annual declaration of assets of ministers and parliamentary secretaries published

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has tabled the annual declaration of assets of ministers and parliamentary secretaries in parliament.

The Prime Minister himself declared an annual salary of €64,847 and €75,000 in bank deposits.

Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech declared a ministerial salary of €58,666, a MEP retirement pension of €12,070, a voluntary contributory pension of €17,453, a government pension of €12,342, and €77,448 in bank deposits.

Planning parliamentary secretary Michael Falzon declared €39,695 in a Bank of Valletta account.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo declared a €3,413 income from lecturing at the University of Malta along with his ministerial salary.

Finance Minister Edward Scicluna declared a lecturing salary of €8,437, while Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli declared a university lecturing salary of €5,502 along with a 99% shareholding in PADA Builders.

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici said that he is a teaching associate within the Faculty of Law at the University but had requested not to receive a lecturing salary since the academic year 2013-14.

Environment Minister Leo Brincat declared €17,551 in government stock,s €5,200 in HSBC subordinated bonds, €6,500 in Bank of Valletta subordinated bonds, €7,500 in Tumas Investment bonds, €800 in Simonds Farsons Cisk bonds, €9,000 in an MSV single premium plan, and €30,557 in an MSV Invstment Bond Joint Unit.

Transport Minister Joe Mizzi declared an outstanding loan balance of €12,690, while Economy Minister Chris Cardona declared a €445,219 loan, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis a €121,000 loan, and EU funds parliamentary secretary Ian Borg a €223,439 loan.  

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela declared €21,0860 in securities with Crystal Finance in his wife’s name.  

Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi declared a €329,816 loand along with ownership of a house in London, and a €76,000 income and €310,279 in total bank deposits.

Agriculture parliamentary secretary Roderick Galdes declared a studio apartment in Hayes, Middlesex, and loans of €168,047.

Gozo Minister Anton Refalo declared full or partial ownership of 23 properties, 21 of which are in Gozo. He also declared a €781,200 loan.

Competitiveness parliamentary secretary Jose Herrera declared €61,990 as his salary, higher than several ministers. He also declared two houses, a villa, a flat, a garage, an office, and a third of a property in Zejtun that is currently being developed.

Health parliamentary secretary Chris Fearne declared a €88,000 income, without saying where the money had come from.
