Curia reacts to reported clerical abuse

No details released but  Curia assures that necessary action to be taken

In a reaction to a news report that another case of clerical sex abuse was to be prosecuted soon, the Curia has reaffirmed its policy of not divulging information about specific cases, but assured the public that “the necessary action is taken in all cases where a risk of harm to children or vulnerable adults is present, based on the information passed on to the Commission and on the outcome of its initial assessment.”

Previously, a report by national broadcaster TVM had announced that in the coming days priest was due to be arraigned in connection with abuse of minors. The report had claimed that after investigating the matter for some time, the police had gathered enough evidence to prosecute the suspect.

The Curia has encouraged the public to contact the Safeguarding Commission on safeguarding@maltadiocese.org in case of any concerns involving children or vulnerable adults.
