Malta remains 'most optimistic' Eurozone country

The latest European Commission survey indicates that Maltese consumers and businesses remain more optimistic than their Eurozone counterparts.

Malta has regained the highest level of optimism amongst Eurozone countries for the thirteenth consecutive month, according to the latest monthly survey by the European Commission.

The survey, which gathered information from businesses and consumers, showed that the Malta’s Economic Sentiment Index reached 114, 14% higher than the Eurozone average.

In a statement, the government noted that practically all economic sectors were optimistic about business performance and that optimism within the retail sector is at its highest since the EC’s surveys started in 2002.

The survey indicates that several manufacturing companies have recently registered a production increase and are predicting further improvements in the coming months.

“Maltese families are amongst the few in Europe who claim that their financial situation has improved and who are predicting further improvements in the coming months,” the government said. “Families are so optimistic that they are expecting the unemployment rate to decrease even further, despite it already having reached a historic low.”
