Bus tickets: 30c, two-hour ticket for elderly, children and disabled extended

30c two-hour ticket for elderly, children and disabled extended until 7th July

Malta Public Transport has announced that the current two hour ticket of 30c for Kartanzjan/Maltese 60+ ID Holders, KNPD Special ID/Blue Badge Holders, and Children under 10 will still be available for a limited period until the 7 July.

“We appreciate that this new ticketing system is a major change in the way people travel by bus, and we would like to offer perhaps the more vulnerable users, a little more time to get acquainted with this system by allowing those that may have not got their tallinja card to still buy the existing two hour ticket on the bus at 30c instead of paying €2 from tomorrow the 1st July,” Daniel Grech, commercial director said.

“We had an overwhelming response to the tallinja card, but the last few days have seen an even bigger response with over 30,000 applications received in just a few days with the total applications now nearing 140,000. This is one-third of our population and it compares to 20,000 applications that the previous bus operator had received in over three years.”

The company explained that over 100,000 cards would have been delivered by today, including a specially organised second postal delivery for this afternoon. The rest of the cards will be delivered in the coming days, with the majority reaching people’s homes before the weekend.

“We would like to put people’s minds at rest. Anyone that registers until today and doesn’t receive the tallinja card in time, will still benefit from the reduced fares as of the 1st July as they will be able to claim a refund using a simple form which can be submitted online, by post or in person. We are guaranteeing this for anyone that registers until the 30th June,” Grech said.
