Active ageing award launched

Award set to honour voluntary work carried out by elderly in the community

Parliamentary secretary for the elderly Justyne Caruana launched the Active Ageing Award, aimed at honouring the voluntary work carried out by the elderly.

The replaces the Senior of the Year award.

In her address, Caruana said the ageing was not only a challenge for the government but also as opportunity to help the elderly improve their quality of life and encourage full participation within society.

“The award recognises the invaluable work that is carried out by our seniors and it should encourage more elderly to be more active,” Caruana said.

Applications are open until Friday 18 September and are accessible from the office of the parliamentary secretariat or on www.activeageing.gov.mt.

The award ceremony will take place in October in Gozo under the patronage of the President of Malta.
