Commuters face another round of gridlock traffic

Traffic reported in B'kara, St Venera, Msida, while poor signage on the newly reopened Coast Road is being blamed for several near-misses

Commuters faced another round of traffic chaos today as Msida came to a standstill and confusion reigned on the newly reopened Coast Road.

Commuters reported waiting over an hour for a bus to arrive in Bugibba - presumably the result of the gridlock in Msida delaying buses.

Other reported heavy traffic in the St Venera tunnels, the Birkirkara bypass and Regional Road. Other areas of B'kara too seem to be affected, including Valley Road and Psaila Street.

Some Facebook users said that several collisions were only narrowly avoided on the Coast Road, where a lack of signage meant that motorists were unaware that the current traffic arrangements were two-way.

Earlier this week, traffic was brought to a standstill as motorists negotiated the diversions away from the Coast Road, which was underdoing asphalt-laying works.
