Labour hails Malta’s vigorous ‘economic optimism’

Labour cites figures from EU-wide survey to argue that the public are more confident in the economy now than they were under the previous administration

The Labour Party have toasted recent Eurobarometer findings which indicate that 81% of the Maltese regard the country’s economic situation as positive, a higher percentage than all other EU countries except Germany and the Nerherlands.

In a statement, the PL pointed out that only 44% of the Maltese had rated the economy positively at the end of the previous Nationalist administration.

They added that 92% of the people interviewed in the survey were pleased with their lives, contrary to 76% in 2012.

They also said that 84% of families rated their financial situation from positive, up from 63% in 2012, and that 70% of people rated their employment as positive, up from 50% in 2012.

Only 7% of the surveyed people said that they were worried about the national debt, down from 24% in 2012. 54% said that they have faith in the government, up from 34% in 2012.
