World-renowned architect Renzo Piano has paid a courtesy call to Speaker Anglu Farrugia at his office in Parliament.

The Italian architect had designed the new Parliament building as well as the new City Gate and open theatre .

In a brief press statement, the government said that Piano, along with his wife and officials from his architects’ firm, toured the Parliament building in what was his first visit since it opened its doors earlier this year.

The City Gate project’s lead architect Antonio Belvedere, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi, the Grand Harbour Regeneration Cooperation chairman Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi,  and GHRC chief executive Chris Paris were also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Farrugia presented Piano with a glass painting by local artist Luciano Micallef.
